Award-winning reporter comes to Stan State to discuss challenges in farming

Stanislaus State students will have the opportunity to participate in conversations and learn about a wide range of topics including agriculture, sustainability, journalism and more in sessions featuring award-winning journalist Amy Wu.

Wu is the author of the book and short film “From Farms to Incubators: Innovative Women Revolutionize the Culture of Our Food”.

Sessions will include conversations with the author and his journey through documentary film and book, panels with visiting students and professors, and multiple opportunities to screen the short film. The larger community is invited to a reception with the author on November 15. Wu believes the planet is facing monumental challenges, water scarcity and climate change, and the agricultural sector faces a very real and difficult challenge: maintaining a stable and sustainable food supply for a population that continues to grow. grow exponentially. With a global population expected to reach around 10 billion people by 2050, the burden on farmers is even greater.

In “From Farms to Incubators”, a wide range of strategies and tools are presented uniting technology and agriculture, including artificial intelligence, data analytics, drones, robotics, advanced soil sensors and blockchain, a new branch of the discipline has emerged called ag tech.

‘From Farms to Incubators’ uses the power of storytelling to raise awareness and hopefully spark an engaging discussion about the various factors that are causing changes in our food systems, the challenges producers face in feeding people. booming world, the obstacles encountered and the progress that has been made in the types of roles women play in agriculture and technology, ”Wu said.

In addition to a variety of tools and strategies, Wu also uses storytelling to shed light on female agribusiness leaders from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, detailing how each individual solved a glaring business problem using agricultural technological innovation.
