Gateway Genomics launches the only research-backed DNA test that provides fetal sex to pregnant mothers at 6 weeks gestational age

We provide families with life-changing information and adhere to the highest scientific standards to ensure parents can trust and depend on the results we provide.

Genomic Gatewayleading developer of direct-to-consumer genetic tests that give families insight into their future children, announces a new peer-reviewed publication titled “SneakPeek Early Gender Test: The Earliest and Most Accurate Method for Determining Fetal Sex at 6 Weeks Gestationin the journal Clinics in Mother and Child Health.

In the study, 115 women underwent DNA blood sampling at 6, 7, and 8-10 weeks gestational age independently at 12 clinics in the United States between May and September 2021. Samples were sent to SneakPeek Laboratories and passed through SneakPeek testing process at each of the three times. For the 115 women, results by gender were consistent at all time points. For 103 of the women, the results by sex were confirmed by ultrasound.

Insight is the only public or private entity to publish accurate fetal sex results at 6 weeks gestation. No previous studies have shown sex identification with high accuracy from maternal plasma before 7 weeks of gestation.

“We pride ourselves on engaging in cutting-edge research,” said Chris Jacob, CEO of Gateway Genomics. “We are the only group in the world, including academic universities as well as corporations, to develop a test sensitive enough to detect male chromosomes from maternal blood early in pregnancy, when the fraction of fetal cells in the blood of the mother is extremely high, low, and every day makes a significant difference. The team has achieved a monumental scientific achievement here.

The SneakPeek Early Gender DNA Test has been available to mothers to find out the sex of their baby since 2014, when the test was offered at 9 weeks of pregnancy. Over the years, the Gateway Genomics team has refined the sensitivity of the test, reducing the time frame from 9 to 8 to 7 weeks pregnant, still maintaining an accuracy rate above 99%.

“While SneakPeek is not the only home fetal sex test on the market, we are proud to be by far the market leader, not only in the families served, but also in scientific integrity,” continues Mr. Jacob. “Other companies claim to detect fetal sex at 7 or 8 weeks, but have not submitted their data for publication in peer-reviewed journals. To us, it looks like a black box. We believe that any commercial lab test offered to customers must undergo rigorous scrutiny by the scientific community to be credible.
