Timothy Hartrey Obituary – Topeka Capital-Journal

Tim was born in Chingford, a town in east London, England, to Margaret and William Hartrey. His childhood was shared with his two brothers, Steven and Giles Hartrey. He became a citizen of the United States, but he was always British at heart. His soft-spoken English accent has endured, even after 33 years of living in America.

Tim received his BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Hatfield Polytechnic in Hertfordshire in the UK. After graduating, he started his career in the automotive industry. His career began at Jaguar Cars in Coventry, England. While working for the Jag, he took a trial desert trip to Phoenix, Arizona, where he met the love of his life, Amy Sanders. Amy moved to be near Tim and they got married on a beautiful spring day in Warwick, England. While still living in the UK, Tim and Amy were blessed with two beautiful twin children, Lindsey and Duncan.

The next chapter of his life was to take place in the United States. He moved to Michigan in 1990 to start working for AC Delco, part of General Motors. He continued to work for General Motors for the next 33 years, his last position as a senior safety engineer.

Tim loved everything about motorcycles and cars. In his youth, he rode motocross enduros and he had an encyclopedic knowledge of automobiles. If anyone had a question about his vehicles, Tim was the one to call. He also had a great love for the outdoors. As a family, they took many memorable trips to Quebec and New Hampshire where they camped, hiked and kayaked. When the twins moved out, Tim and Amy continued their love of the outdoors and became avid cyclists. They have cycled thousands of kilometers side by side. Tim’s passion for the outdoors and the active lifestyle lives on in his children, who now live in Washington State and carry on his love of the outdoors and all that is beautiful in nature.

Tim had a calm spirit and a personality that left a mark on all who knew and loved him. He cared deeply about his family above all else and was a stable and peaceful husband and father.

He is survived by: Amy Hartrey (wife), Lindsey Brinklow (daughter), Duncan Hartrey (son), Steven Hartrey (brother), Giles Hartrey (brother), Aaron Brinklow (son-in-law), Heather Kranz (daughter-brother-in-law ), Mary & Jim Bunn (sister and brother-in-law), Linda Sanders & Larry Wheeler (sister and brother-in-law).

A private memorial will be held by his immediate family.
